Joash Koh

Joash Koh is a doctoral student of Counselor Education at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He holds a Master in Marriage and Family Therapy from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee as well as a Master of Arts in Pastoral Counseling from Malaysia.

Having grown up in a culturally diverse country and since living in Tennessee as an ethnic minority, Joash has a deep awareness and respect for difference, divergence, and diversity. He honors the sacred space of the therapeutic environment as a place of safety and growth for the diverse clients he serves. He has seen that with authentic attunement and emotional safety, clients are able to navigate painful emotions and trauma towards clarity and resilience. In counseling, Joash utilizes therapeutic approaches such as Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems, Existential Therapy, Brainspotting, and Mindfulness-based practices. He is a Certified EFT Therapist and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional who has extensive experience working with anxiety, life transitions, various types of abuse and trauma, as well as relationships in distress.

He is happily married to his college sweetheart and they are enjoying living in a city close to the beautiful mountains of the Appalachians. Joash enjoys a good conversation and a cuppa homebrewed coffee. He secretly dreams of being a tennis pro, a full-time manga reader, and a food tourist – sampling every type of food across the world.
